About the Programme

The Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (PB B.Sc. Nursing) is a two-year undergraduate programme designed for registered nurses (GNM diploma holders) who wish to upgrade their education and professional skills. Recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), the programme builds on existing clinical experience and equips nurses with advanced knowledge, leadership abilities, and eligibility for higher studies.

This programme prepares graduates to take on senior clinical roles, teaching positions, administrative responsibilities, and global career opportunities in healthcare.


Duration

  • Course Length: 2 years

  • Weekly Hours: 40 hours (theory, labs, clinical training)

  • Internship: Integrated in the final semester through hospital and community postings


Eligibility

  • Education:

    • Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) from an INC-recognized institution

    • 10+2 pass (any stream) is required, or equivalent qualification recognized by the university

  • Registration: Must be a Registered Nurse (RN/RM) with the State Nursing Council

  • Medical Fitness: Candidate must be medically fit

  • Reservation: As per government norms

Clinical Training

Students receive extensive clinical exposure in multi-specialty hospitals and community settings, covering:

  • Medical-Surgical Nursing: Advanced bedside care, critical care, and OT training

  • Obstetrics & Gynecology Nursing: Antenatal, intranatal, postnatal care

  • Pediatrics & Child Health: Neonatal and pediatric care

  • Psychiatric Nursing: Mental health nursing

  • Community Health Nursing: Rural postings, health education, public health services


Examination & Evaluation

  • Internal Assessment: 25% (assignments, seminars, clinical performance)

  • University Examination: 75% (theory & practicals)

  • Passing Criteria:

    • Minimum 50% in theory & practicals separately

    • 75% attendance in theory and 100% in clinical training required


Internship (Final Semester)

The internship develops leadership and clinical decision-making skills in:

  • Medical-Surgical Nursing – 8 weeks

  • Midwifery & Gynecology – 8 weeks

  • Pediatrics – 4 weeks

  • Community Health Nursing – 4 weeks

  • Psychiatry – 4 weeks

  • Nursing Education & Administration – 4 weeks
